Summary
Satake landslide of Sangrumba
Village Development Committee in Ilam is a complex and active landslide
activated due to Nepal-Bihar earthquake in 1990. It has swept away almost five
wards of the VDC, including 22 houses and around 300 ropanis of fertile
farmland of the village. A large area of the fertile farm has turned into
barren slopes which ultimately affect the food production. The vulnerable
people have no alternative but to shift to a safer place every monsoon.
No any mitigation measures are
adopted to control the landslide. Deforestation, no water management
strategies, unscientific land use practice, weak geological structure has
promoted to extend landslide in to bigger size.
Landslide area is highly vulnerable for further landslide if
proper mitigation measures are not implemented.
